Postpaid mobile phone subscriptions in Oman increases by 5.8%

Muscat: The telecommunications sector in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed remarkable growth, with active postpaid mobile phone subscriptions rising by 5.8 percent by the end of April 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 1,235,884 subscriptions.

Statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that the number of active prepaid mobile phone subscriptions declined by 0.6 percent, reaching 5,280,057, indicating a gradual shift toward postpaid services with expanded benefits.

Internet of Things (IoT) subscriptions achieved exceptional growth of 121 percent, reaching 1,552,577 subscriptions by the end of April 2025. This reflects the expansion in the use of smart technology in the logistics, industrial, and smart city sectors, as the Sultanate of Oman moves towards complete digital transformation.

The total number of mobile phone subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman reached 8.68 million subscriptions by the end of April 2025, registering a 12.3 percent increase compared to the end of April 2024. The total number of active mobile broadband Internet subscriptions reached 5.37 millionby the end of April 2025.

Active fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 2.5 percent to reach 587,144 subscriptions by the end of April 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Fibre optic services increased by 11.9 percent to reach 337,138 subscriptions. 

Fixed 5G subscriptions increased by 2.6 percent to reach 215,217 subscriptions by the end of April 2025, while fixed 4G subscriptions declined by 36.9 percent to record 21,103 subscriptions.

In contrast, some traditional services recorded a significant decline, with ADSL subscriptions declining by 52.6 percent to 12,536, and satellite subscriptions declining by 44.8 percent to 368 by the end of April 2025. Total active fixed-line subscriptions also declined by 0.6 percent to 439,662 by the end of April 2025, compared to the same period last year.
