Construction of first school in Sultan Haitham City begins

Muscat: The construction of the first school in Sultan Haitham City in District 9 with a capacity of more than 1,400 students has begun.

The school will be a landmark in the city's educational landscape and will have 90 classrooms, eight science laboratories, six art and technology classrooms, besides an integrated sports facilities.

All of these are designed to provide a modern educational environment that meets academic needs, sports and artistic activities and opens up broad horizons for innovation and creativity.

Sultan Haitham City features an integrated educational system, the first phase of which includes three modern educational complexes, each housing three schools with a capacity of over 2,300 students.

These schools are located within ten minutes from residential areas. These complexes provide vibrant educational environments that combine academic and extracurricular activities and include playgrounds, green spaces, swimming pools and creative spaces.

These are designed to be an extension of the local community through shared spaces such as school cafeterias, multipurpose rooms and break areas. They also emphasise sustainability through green rooftop gardens used as outdoor educational spaces and recreational areas, contributing to natural thermal insulation and providing a healthy and attractive environment for students.

Faten bint Hamoud Al Harthi, an urban planner and architectural designer at the Executive Office for Future Cities at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, emphasised that Sultan Haitham City is working to create a new generation of educational environment that go beyond the traditional form of school buildings, becoming a living part of the city's urban fabric.

The design of educational projects has taken into account the schools' role as spaces that encompass knowledge and community interaction, embodying the national trend toward sustainable education.

She added: "These educational projects are being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, to provide an integrated model for public and private school complexes. With the commencement of the implementation of the first private school and the preparation of two other models, the outlines of a new experience are taking shape, which will later be extended to various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, making schools a fundamental nucleus for modern urban development."

With the start of the new academic year and the return of students to their classrooms, Sultan Haitham City stands out as an integrated urban model that enhances the definition of education in the Sultanate of Oman, through modern schools and educational complexes that keep pace with future aspirations and place students at the heart of the educational experience.
