Tashkent: Uzbekistan marched into the final of the 2025 CAFA Nations Cup with a 4-0 win against Kyrgyz Republic on Friday.
With Oman picking up a 2-1 win against Turkmenistan earlier in the day, Uzbekistan needed to win by two goals or more to advance and they achieved their target in convincing fashion, setting up a final date with Islamic Republic of Iran on Monday.
Oman went into the game level on points with Uzbekistan and despite their 2-1 win against Turkmenistan, missed out on a place in the final due to an inferior goal difference.
The West Asian were handed the lead in the 16th minute after Rustem Ahallyyev inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
Turkmenistan bounced back to draw level six minutes into the second half through Arzuvguly Sapargulyyev but Muhsen Alghassani’s goal in stoppage time ensured maximum points for Oman.
Oman will next face India in the third place playoff on Monday.
