Muscat: The first regional project for the protection of the Arabian leopard in Dhofar Governorate was launched in Muscat today.
The project is a mobile veterinary clinic supplied with the latest medical equipment. It serves as an integrated unit that is capable of rapid response in the field of protection of the Arabian leopard.
Assisted by a specialized veterinary team, the unit will implement training programmes to train local cadres in handling wildlife protection techniques.
The project is supported by the Arabian Leopard Fund, acting in cooperation with the Environment Authority. It seeks to provide emergency veterinary care to Arabian leopards amid their natural habitat in the rugged mountainous terrain in Dhofar Governorate—one of the last remaining habitats for this endangered species in the Arabian Peninsula.
