London: Asyad Shipping, part of Asyad Group, is sponsoring Oman 3165 Expedition that was launched at the Royal Geographical Society in London, coinciding with World Maritime Day under the theme “Our Ocean, Our Commitment, Our Opportunity”.
Held under the patronage of Badr Mohammed Badr Almantheri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Kingdom, the event convened representatives of IMO member states, alongside prestigious scientific institutions, educational institutions, universities and Asyad Shipping’s strategic partners.
The Oman 3165 Expedition is an unprecedented two-month maritime journey along Oman’s entire 3,165-kilometre coastline. Set to unfold in two phases: the first from November to December 2025, and the second from January to February 2026, the journey will be led by renowned explorer Mark Evans in a Greenland-style solo kayak built, propelled solely by paddling, currents and waves. Designed to be carried out under the strictest sustainability standards and free from carbon emissions, the expedition will stand as the first of its kind in the region and a global showcase for marine sustainability.
More than a journey, the “Oman 3165” Expedition is a multimedia narrative of Oman’s legacy and enduring relationship with the sea.
Through podcasts, field research, and artistic collaborations, it will chronicle the nation’s centuries-old seafaring heritage, highlight the biodiversity of its marine and coastal ecosystems and amplify the voices of communities and young Omanis working for a sustainable future. By transforming the sea into an open laboratory, the initiative underscores Oman’s active contribution to global conversations on climate change and ocean stewardship, while protecting fragile coastal and marine ecosystems. Educational content, including a dedicated podcast series, will later be shared with schools worldwide, extending the expedition’s impact to classrooms and raising global awareness of the importance of safeguarding our oceans.
By sponsoring the “Oman 3165” Expedition, timed with the World Maritime Day held annually on 25 September, Asyad Shipping is reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable shipping in the region. Over the past years, the company has modernised a fleet of more than 80 vessels to meet advanced environmental efficiency standards, introduced smart fuel management systems, and reduced vessel emissions through cutting-edge digital monitoring. Beyond compliance, Asyad Shipping is actively exploring clean fuels and alternative propulsion technologies as part of Oman’s broader journey towards net zero by 2050. These efforts place Asyad at the forefront of regional shipping, balancing operational excellence with environmental and social responsibility.
Captain Khalil Al Hooti, Vice President of Marine at Asyad Shipping, commented: “The Oman 3165 Expedition embodies the meeting point of Omani seafaring heritage and environmental responsibility. By supporting this initiative, Asyad Shipping underscores its commitment to placing sustainability at the heart of its operations while enhancing Oman’s profile on the international maritime stage.
This journey strengthens Oman’s candidacy for International Maritime Organisation membership and reflects our shared ambition to achieve net zero by 2050 through bold investments in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and advanced shipping technologies. It underscores the Sultanate’s role as a steward of Oman’s maritime heritage and a visionary partner in shaping the future of global shipping”
The launch of the Oman 3165 Expedition will serve as a strategic platform for international collaboration on sustainability, and as a clear signal that Oman is charting a course to redefine its maritime role, not only as a historic gateway on global trade routes, but as a trusted regional voice and responsible global partner in protecting the world’s oceans.
