The Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), during its 2nd meeting held recently, approved the new formation of its supporting committees which is a significant step reflecting OOC’s commitment to strengthening institutional performance and supporting the implementation of national sports programs and activities.
The new structure includes seven supporting committees: Oman Sport and Active SocietyCommittee, Oman Women’s Sport and Gender EqualityCommittee, High-Performance Sport and Olympic PlanningCommittee, Education, Culture, and Olympic HeritageCommittee, Oman Sports MedicineCommittee, Oman Sport and Sustainable EnvironmentCommittee, and Oman Anti-Doping Committee, in addition to Oman Athletes’ Committee.
These committees aim to support the Board of Directors in its duties and enhance efficiency across various Olympic domains — athletic, technical, medical, cultural, environmental, and social — in alignment with national policies and international orientations.
Oman Sport and Active SocietyCommittee, chaired by Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh Al-Naabi, a Board Member, begins its mission by promoting sports participation on the widest possible scale for all segments of society, in line with Oman’s National Sports Policy. The committee focuses on developing a National Strategy for Sport for All, qualifying national cadres of coaches, supervisors, and volunteers, and designing comprehensive sports programs that include families, women, children, youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities. It also organizes national, GCC, and Asian events under the slogan “Sport for All”, utilizes national and digital media to promote physical activity, strengthens institutional partnerships, and leverages sports to address health, social, and environmental issues — ensuring the effective implementation of national programs.
Oman Women’s Sport and Gender EqualityCommittee, chaired by Sayyida Sanaa bint Hamad Al Busaidi, a Board Member, works to promote women’s integration in sports, increase their representation in decision-making positions within OOC, sports federations, and clubs, and organize training and qualification programs to develop female cadres. The committee also provides technical and administrative support, organizes women’s sports festivals across various governorates, ensures an enabling environment for women’s sports, and fosters international cooperation with women’s sports committees in the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Committee to exchange expertise and enhance women’s participation regionally and internationally.
High-Performance Sport and Olympic PlanningCommittee, chaired by Taha bin Suleiman Al Kishry, a Board Member, focuses on developing national teams and supporting elite athletes by preparing a National Plan for High-Performance Sport, classifying athletes, setting incentive systems, drafting performance contracts and goals with sports federations, and monitoring participation in regional, continental, and international tournaments. It also works on creating a comprehensive national athlete database covering technical, medical, and social aspects, and coordinates with sports medicine centers to provide technical and medical support — ensuring athletes’ career longevity and optimal competitive performance.
Education, Culture, and Olympic HeritageCommittee, chaired by Mousa bin Khamis Al Balushi, a Board Member, aims to instill Olympic values and promote sports culture by developing educational and cultural programs, creating innovative projects across governorates, and cooperating with academic and cultural institutions to spread knowledge about sports history and Olympic heritage. It also promotes sports education in schools and universities, integrates Olympic principles into the educational process, and organizes events that link the Olympic Museum with school and cultural activities — strengthening national identity and embedding Olympic values among youth and the wider community.
Oman Sports MedicineCommittee, chaired by Dr. Saad bin Saeed Al Jumaa, is responsible for preparing and updating medical regulations, overseeing scientific and medical tests for national team athletes, supporting sports federations in rehabilitation and recovery programs, and training national medical staff. The committee also promotes scientific knowledge exchange, coordinates with international medical bodies to adopt best practices, and ensures adherence to medical and ethical standards at all levels — focusing on safeguarding athletes’ health and providing specialized medical care.
Oman Sport and Sustainable EnvironmentCommittee, chaired by Retired Brigadier Saeed bin Mohammed Al Hajri, a Board Member, integrates environmental sustainability into sports by developing national plans for sport and environment, hosting and organizing environmentally themed sports events, raising environmental awareness, and supporting national programs for renewable energy use. It also promotes international cooperation with relevant organizations to embed sustainability principles in sports practices, enhancing Oman’s standing in sustainable sports development.
Oman Athletes Committee serves as a representative body for Omani athletes, ensuring their rights, facilitating communication between athletes and the OOC, and providing guidance on relevant policies and programs. It also enhances Oman’s external representation in regional and international sports organizations, contributing to the empowerment and long-term welfare of athletes throughout and beyond their sporting careers.
It is worth noting that the OOC’s supporting committees form a vital pillar in enhancing the Committee’s institutional performance by ensuring close monitoring of national programs and projects, harmonizing strategic planning with field implementation, and demonstrating the Committee’s commitment to supporting athletes, empowering women, promoting Olympic culture, and protecting the environment. These committees are expected to play an active role in advancing national initiatives, developing sports competencies, and fostering integration across athletic, technical, cultural, and environmental fields — thereby contributing to the strategic goals of OOC and reinforcing Oman’s presence on the regional and international Olympic stage.
