Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is joining the global community in celebrating the International Day Against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property, observed annually on November 14.
The occasion aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting cultural property from illicit trafficking and to emphasize the need for international cooperation to prevent the loss of cultural heritage.
Oman's Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has been working tirelessly to preserve the country's cultural heritage, including tangible cultural property such as archaeological sites, historical monuments, and cultural artifacts.
The Ministry has launched several initiatives to protect cultural property, including the establishment of a national registry for cultural property, which allows citizens and institutions to register their cultural assets and obtain certificates of ownership.
Oman has also ratified several international agreements, including the 1954 Hague Convention and the 1970 UNESCO Convention, to combat illicit trafficking in cultural property.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has organized various awareness-raising activities, including workshops and training sessions, to educate the public about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and preventing illicit trafficking.
By celebrating this international day, Oman reaffirms its commitment to protecting its cultural heritage and preserving its rich history for future generations.
