Ministry monitors damage to schools by low pressure system

Muscat: The Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman has confirmed that it is overseeing urgent repairs and preparations at schools affected by the recent low-pressure system “Al-Masarat,” as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of students and staff.

In a statement, the ministry said it has authorised the Directorates General of Education across various governorates to take necessary measures to prepare affected schools, in line with its emergency management strategy and alerts issued by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center regarding heavy rainfall recorded between March 24 and 28.

The ministry added that the Central Emergency Management Committee continues to monitor the impact of the weather system on educational facilities, following assessments and evaluations of damages caused by the adverse conditions.

Based on these assessments, educational institutions have been granted flexibility in determining the mode of study.

Schools, universities, and colleges may either resume in-person classes starting Sunday, March 29, 2026, or switch to distance learning, depending on their readiness and local conditions.

The move aims to ensure the continuity of education while prioritizing the safety of students and educational staff amid the aftermath of the weather system.
