Digital transition session focuses on role of AI model in improving government performance

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday organised an introductory session on developing and improving government performance through the use of Oman’s artificial intelligence (AI) linguistic model Mueen (or Mu’een) "assistant".

The session was in pursuance of national efforts aimed at accelerating digital transition in the Sultanate of Oman. It discussed steps for applying the latest AI technologies with the prime objective of raising the quality of government services, streamlining procedures and enhancing productivity in the State’s Administrative Apparatus.

During the session, it was explained that the development of the Mueen model was the outcome of partnership with the private sector. This bi-sectoral cooperation embodied the vision of the Sultanate of Oman to empower national companies and groom a generation of talented human resources capable of leading the advanced technology sector.

The session highlighted the role of Mueen as a pure local AI model that symbolizes digital sovereignty for the Sultanate of Oman. It included visual simulation of operational capabilities that Mueen could provide in supporting employees and diminishing routine administrative burdens.

The tasks performed via Mueen include preparing official letters and drafting integrated professional messages that conform to the official administrative style, including specialised instant translation. The services cover translating large and complex files and documents based on the context of government work, in addition to extracting and analysing information like summarising long reports and providing accurate answers based on specific time-bound periods.
