Nepal Embassy in Muscat organises tourism promotion event to mark Sagarmatha Day

Muscat: The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat organised a tourism promotion event to mark Sagarmatha Day (Mt. Everest Day) on 21 May 2026 at Nepal House, Muscat.

The programme was organised to commemorate the first successful ascent of Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) on 29 May 1953 by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary.

The programme aimed to promote Nepal’s tourism including mountaineering and adventure tourism.

The event was graced by Ms. Nadira Al Harthy, first Omani lady to summit Mt. Everest, mountaineers, hikers, representatives from tourism and travel sectors, mediapersons, social media influencers and friends of Nepal.

Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman commenced the formal event by lighting of the traditional Panas lamp.

During his address, Ambassador Aryal highlighted the historical significance of Sagarmatha Day and explained Sagarmatha as a symbol of courage and determination.

He stressed the growing global issue of climate change and its impact on the Himalayas as well as Ocean ecosystems. He also informed about the Nepal’s initiative of holding the first edition of “Sagarmatha Sambaad” in 2025 related to Climate Change.

Ambassador Aryal also highlighted the beauty of Nepal and explained the easy visa process to visit Nepal. He urged all the participants to visit Nepal to witness the unparallel beauty and diversity.

During the programme, Ms. Nadira Al Harthy made a presentation to share her experiences on climbing Mt. Everest, and reflections on the natural beauty of Himalayas and Nepal.

Furthermore, she encouraged participants to pursue their goals with determination and travel to Himalayas in Nepal to discover oneself. The Ambassador honored Ms. Nadira Al Harthy in recognition of her remarkable achievements in mountaineering and contribution to promoting mountain adventure.

A promotional video showcasing Nepal’s natural beauty, mountains, culture and tradition was also screened during the event.

Beautiful photo frames reflecting Nepal’s beauty and mountain range were distributed to all the participants.

The programme concluded with a Nepali dinner hosted by the Embassy. A tourism promotional presentation reflecting Nepal’s beauty and heritage was displayed throughout the event.

As a part of the celebration of Sagarmatha Day (Mt. Everest Day), early morning Peace Walk and Beach cleaning event has been scheduled on 29 May 2026 at Qurum Beach.

The event will begin in front of W Hotel and run from 05:00 to 05:45 hours. The Ambassador informed about the event and requested all the participants to join.
