Australian envoy celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Indian friend

New Delhi: Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green OAM, joined in the spirit of Raksha Bandhan as an Indian friend visited him to tie a rakhi, highlighting the festival’s message of love, family and enduring bonds.

Green shared a video of the celebration on X, showing his friend tying the traditional sacred thread around his wrist.

“I was charmed that an Indian friend dropped by today to tie the #rakhi on me. A lovely tradition, rooted in love, family and enduring bonds of care and protection,” Green wrote.

India celebrated Raksha Bandhan on Friday, with people across the country observing the festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.

Raksha Bandhan is widely celebrated in India and other parts of South Asia, as well as by communities around the world influenced by Hindu culture. During the traditional ceremony, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists as a symbolic expression of love, protection and affection. Brothers traditionally give gifts in return and reaffirm their commitment to supporting and caring for their sisters.
