Muscat: ‘Muscat Arbitration and Mediation Days’ (MAMD) conference is set to begin on 7 December 2026.
This was announced during a press conference organised on Monday by Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC), which is affiliated to the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).
The press conference was held at the premises of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs in Muscat.
Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Manthiri, CEO of Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre, said that organising the event aligns with efforts to consolidate the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a hub for dialogue and exchange of expertise in the fields of arbitration, mediation and means of settlement of disputes.
He observed that the conference serves as a platform that brings together an elite group of experts and specialists from different countries of the world, thus offering a space to share experiences to discuss relevant modern developments and practices.
Al Manthiri pointed out that the conference would enable public and private institutions to contribute to specialised panel discussions, and it would include a special programme to be presented by Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre. He pointed out that this approach reflects the Centre’s commitment to build effective partnerships with the entities concerned and to boost discussions with diverse perspectives and experiences.
The launch of the conference’s official website (mamd.om) marks a milestone in facilitating access to information about the Centre’s programme, as well as the speakers, events and sponsorship packages, said Al Manthiri, noting that the Centre is developing a comprehensive scheme that enables institutions, professionals, researchers and students to benefit from the event.
“Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026” represents a significant aspect of the Centre’s vision to develop legal expertise, said Al Manthiri, adding that the Centre lays emphasis on students of law students, by upgrading their capabilities in advocacy, arbitration and legal research. “This constitutes an investment in the future of the justice and the system of settlement of disputes,” said Al Manthiri.
He explained that the Centre offers students of law an opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences with arbitration cases under the supervision of arbitrators, judges and practitioners, thereby bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application.
For his part, Abdulrahman Al-Farsi, an official of “Decree”, an Omani legal tech company that co-organises “Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026” alongside OCAC, said, “This annual commercial arbitration moot court competition involves the participation of law schools. It operates through two independent tracks—one in Arabic and the other in English. Each track sees includes 8 teams, and each team comprises 3 to 5 students supervised by a faculty coach. Each team undertakes hypothetical arbitration before tribunals composed of arbitrators, judges and arbitration practitioners.”
The press event saw the signing of 5 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between OCAC and other entities and stakeholders. This move reflects the Centre’s commitment to expand its partnership network and foster institutional cooperation that supports the scheme of arbitration and mediation in the Sultanate of Oman.
The signatories of the MoUs included with Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, the national travel operator “Visit Oman”, Oman Society of Engineers, the Omani legal tech company “Decree” and OCAC global learning and training partner “Resolve”.
These memoranda aim to enhance cooperation, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and broaden the base of entities supporting the sector of arbitration and mediation.
