OMR86mn contract for extra lanes on Rusayl-Nizwa road

Muscat: Motorists travelling from Rusayl to Nizwa can expect smoother traffic flow with more lanes to be opened later this year.
Salim bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications has affirmed that the start of implementation of the third and fourth lanes of the Rusayl-Nizwa dual carriageway project is expected during the last quarter of this year.
According to Al Nuaimi, adding four lanes to the third and fourth lanes to the Rusayl-Nizwa dual carriageway will improve the efficiency of the road.
Al Nuami said, “The implementation of the third and fourth lanes to the Rusayl-Nizwa dual carriageway has been assigned to the contractor. The ministry is currently completing the contract procedures to give a direct order for work. The start of implementation of the project is expected during the last quarter of this year.”
He added, “The contractor will perform the work according to the contract and there is a preparation period for the contractor at the site and the project is the addition of two lanes in each direction to Rusayl-Nizwa dual carriageway.”
He said that the length of the first part of the project is about 27 km from the intersection of Muscat Expressway to the Intersection of the Sharqiyah Expressway.
“The ministry will work to improve the existing pavements and expand all existing bridges, entry and exit routes, intersections and flyovers in Mawleh, Fangah, Bidibid and Jifnain,” he explained.
The Board of Tenders has assigned this month the draft addition of the third and fourth lanes to Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company with a value of OMR86.284 million with an implementation period of 912 days plus 60 days for initial equipment.
