Heritage Ministry signs contract for managing, operating Barka Fort

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism today signed a contract with Bait Al Ghasham Trading to manage, operate, and utilize Barka Fort in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate.

The signing of this agreement aims to maximize the benefits of cultural heritage and its contribution to economic growth, as Barka Fort is one of the most important historical landmarks in the governorate, holding significant cultural and heritage value.

The project will stimulate tourism by attracting visitors from both within and outside Oman and will serve as an opportunity to enhance the private sector's role in the management and operation of heritage sites. The project will also provide multiple investment opportunities, including tourism activities, cultural events, recreational activities, and craft exhibitions, in addition to creating job opportunities in various sectors.

After its operation and management under modern standards, the fort is expected to become an important contributor to the national economy by increasing tourism spending, encouraging entrepreneurs in hospitality and related services, and strengthening Barka's position as a prominent tourist and cultural destination on the Omani tourism map.
