Sayyid Badr sends greetings to Egypt for nomination of former Egyptian minister as UNESCO director

Muscat: Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, made a phone call to Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in the Arab Republic of Egypt on Tuesday for the nomination of an Egyptian university professor and former tourism and antiquities minister, Khaled el-Anani, to be the UNESCO's next director.

Sayyid Badr expressed the Sultanate of Oman's sincere congratulations to Egypt on the nomination of university professor and former tourism and antiquities minister, Khaled el-Anani as Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), making him the first Arab to hold this high-profile international position.

He emphasised that this victory reflects the prestigious scientific and cultural standing of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its pioneering role in supporting dialogue and peace and promoting the values of tolerance and understanding among peoples.

For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for its support for the Egyptian candidate, commending its honourable stances and constant support for Egypt in various regional and international forums. He also emphasised the deep-rooted and solid fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries.
