‘Towards the Path of Reform’: ROP inaugurates Inmate Product Exhibition in Muscat

Muscat: In a powerful display of rehabilitation and creativity, the Royal Oman Police inaugurated an exhibition of inmate-made products at Mall Oman on December 11, 2023. The event, held under the theme “Towards the Path of Reform”, marks the launch of Gulf Inmate Week 2023 and highlights the transformative efforts of the General Directorate of Prisons.

The exhibition was officially opened by Brigadier General Abdullah bin Ali Al-Harthy, Director General of Prisons, and attended by dignitaries including H.E. Salem bin Muslim Al-Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Human Resource Development, alongside officials from various government entities.

Running until December 27, the exhibition features a diverse array of handcrafted items created by inmates, including pottery, paintings, traditional crafts, clothing, silverware, furniture, and food products. These works reflect the skills inmates have developed through vocational training and creative workshops aimed at rehabilitation and empowerment.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Al-Busaidi praised the initiative, noting that the exhibition “embodies multiple forms of human creativity” and commended the high quality and craftsmanship of the products. He emphasized the Royal Oman Police’s commitment to reintegrating inmates into society and supporting their personal development.

The exhibition also includes a digital platform to promote and market the products, further enabling inmates to connect with the community and showcase their talents beyond prison walls.
