
Muscat: The Earthquake Monitoring Center at Sultan Qaboos University reported that a moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 in magnitude struck the Arabian Sea early Wednesday morning.
According to the center, the tremor occurred at 4:27 a.m. local time and was recorded at a depth of 12 kilometers. The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 245 kilometers south of Salalah.
Seismological data indicate the quake was measured using the moment magnitude scale (mwp). Monitoring stations across Oman detected the event, which was centered offshore and did not pose an immediate threat to populated areas.
