
Nouakchott-- The Sultanate of Oman today took part in meetings of the Parliamentary Union of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, held in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The meetings formed part of the 55th session of the Executive Committee of the OIC Parliamentary Union.
The Omani delegation was led by Mohammed Salim Al Harthy, Member of the State Council.
The meeting discussed the draft agenda of the Executive Committee in the presence of members of the Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs. During the meeting, two Vice-Presidents of the Executive Committee were elected as representatives of African and Asian groups. The meeting also approved the distribution of seats of members of the Executive Committee for the next session of its meetings.
The meetings looked into the recommendations of the past conference and discussed arrangements for the 20th conference of the Parliamentary Union, scheduled to be held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, in mid-June 2026. It also dealt with the Palestinian cause and the current challenges facing the Islamic nation, in addition to means of consolidating joint efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.
The 55th session of the Executive Committee the OIC Parliamentary Union focused on developing mechanisms for joint parliamentary work, exchanging parliamentary experiences, addressing political, economic and social issues and drafting recommendations to boost the joint Islamic action.
