Oman stands with Kuwait in maritime border dispute

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s Foreign Ministry has expressed deep concern over the coordinates lists and map deposited by the Republic of Iraq with the United Nations, stating that they infringe upon the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait over its maritime areas and established maritime elevations.

The ministry has affirmed Oman’s solidarity with Kuwait regarding its sovereignty over all its maritime zones and water features. It also called on Iraq to take into account the historical and fraternal relations between the two countries, as well as the principles of good neighbourliness and international law.

The Sultanate further stressed the importance of adhering to the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in addition to respecting the bilateral understandings, agreements, and memoranda of understanding concluded between the two brotherly nations.
