Muscat: The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center has forecast that the Sultanate of Oman will be affected by a low-pressure trough starting Tuesday evening, continuing until Thursday morning (April 2, 2026).
The weather system is expected to bring rainfall of varying intensity, occasionally thundery, accompanied by active winds. This may lead to flash floods and reduced horizontal visibility during rainfall.
According to the center, initial cloud formation will begin Tuesday evening over the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar, with scattered rainfall expected. The overall impact during this phase is anticipated to remain limited, with light to moderate rain, minor runoff in wadis, and winds ranging between 10–20 knots.
From Wednesday evening through Thursday morning (April 1–2), conditions are expected to intensify, with cloud activity extending to Musandam, Al Buraimi, Ad Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Ad Dakhiliyah, North and South Ash Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar. Rainfall may vary in intensity and could be thundery at times. The impact is forecast to be low to moderate, potentially causing flow in wadis and valleys, along with active winds reaching 15–30 knots (27–55 km/h).
Sea conditions are expected to be moderate to rough along most of Oman’s coasts, with wave heights ranging between 2 to 3 meters. Authorities advise against going to sea during thunderstorms.
The Civil Aviation Authority has urged the public to take necessary precautions during rainfall and flash floods, remain cautious of reduced visibility, check sea conditions before heading out, and follow official weather updates.
