Muscat: Citizens and residents in the capital are set to enjoy a special open-air experience as part of celebrations marking World Public Transport Day, with a free sightseeing bus service operating along one of the city’s most scenic coastal routes.
The initiative, operated by the national transport provider Mwasalat, will offer a unique opportunity to explore Muttrah’s waterfront aboard an open-top bus.
The service will run on Friday, 17 April 2026, between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, starting from Fish roundabout in Muttrah and ending at the National Museum of Oman. The route will pass through the iconic Muttrah Corniche, offering passengers panoramic views of the sea, historic harbour, and vibrant city life.
In addition to the sightseeing ride, Mwasalat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, announced a nationwide initiative providing unlimited free bus travel.
The special offer will be available across the urban transport networks in Muscat and Salalah, encouraging residents to make greater use of public transport services throughout the day.
Officials said the initiative aims to promote sustainable urban mobility by encouraging people to leave private vehicles at home and experience the country’s public transport network. By offering free and unlimited travel for a full day, authorities hope to reduce road congestion and raise awareness of the environmental benefits of public transit.
They added that the campaign reflects Oman’s continued commitment to modernising its transport sector and promoting a culture of shared mobility aligned with long-term environmental and economic goals.
The event is part of broader efforts to highlight the role of public transport in building cleaner, more efficient, and more connected cities.
