Muscat Plastic Recycling Lab launched

Muscat: Omran Group, in partnership with Oman Sail and Re-Solution, launched on Wednesday in Muscat the "Muscat Plastic Recycling Lab" to enable various segments of society to understand plastic types and the mechanisms of recycling and transforming them into value-added products. The lab will run for several days.

The launch of the lab is part of efforts aimed at supporting circular economy principles and enhancing environmental awareness, particularly related to marine environment protection, by engaging the community in hands-on, interactive experiences that contribute to spreading a culture of sustainability and promoting responsible environmental practices.

The lab contributes to achieving broad economic and social value through collaboration with the private sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), thereby supporting knowledge transfer, capacity building, and advancing local added value targets. The initiative also underscores the importance of cross-sector partnerships in achieving sustainable outcomes through community collaboration.

The lab targets school and university students as well as various community groups through structured programs designed to inspire behavioral change, enhance environmental understanding, and encourage wider participation in sustainable practices.

The lab represents one of the outcomes of Omran Group's social investment program, embodying its approach to sustainable tourism development by integrating the environmental dimension into its various projects. It also aligns with the objectives of promoting environmental awareness, encouraging practical models of sustainable development, and motivating community participation in adopting responsible behaviors.

The lab provides an interactive platform demonstrating how two types of plastic—PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and HDPE (high-density polyethylene)—can be transformed into reusable products, thereby promoting responsible consumption, improving resource efficiency, and reinforcing the importance of recycling as a shared community responsibility.

The lab also offers applied educational experiences targeting school and university students and various community groups in the recycling process through interactive sessions and guided presentations that familiarize participants with plastic types, recycling methods, and the importance of responsible resource management.
