Multi million development projects transform Qurayyat fishing port

Muscat: The fishing port in the Wilayat of Qurayyat, Muscat Governorate, is witnessing the implementation of a package of development and investment projects aimed at strengthening the port's infrastructure and improving the efficiency of services provided to fishermen and investors. This will contribute to supporting the local economy and stimulating trade and tourism related to the maritime sector.

Engineer Abdullah bin Khalfan Al Hinai, the project manager, confirmed that the fishing port in Qurayyat is one of the oldest and most important fishing ports in the Sultanate of Oman, given its vital location connecting the Wilayat of Qurayyat with various maritime activities.

He pointed out that the projects currently underway are part of efforts to develop fishing ports and enhance their developmental and economic role.

Al Hinai explained that the project to add a fixed berth to the breakwater at the fishing port in the Wilayat of Qurayyat has reached 100 percent completion, at a cost exceeding OMR 2.9 million . The project includes the construction of a 185-meter-long fixed berth, which will support the berthing of fishing vessels and boats, and enhance the efficiency of handling and maritime services at the port.

Al Hinai added that the project also includes the development of a new investment plot with a total area of 33,000 square meters, allocated to support commercial and service activities related to the fishing sector and its supporting services. This will open the door to attracting more quality investments and providing direct and indirect job opportunities for the residents of the Wilayat.

Engineer Abdullah Al Hinai pointed out that the project also includes the establishment of a dedicated site for installing a marine crane for the maintenance and repair of ships and boats. This will enhance the efficiency of technical services provided to fishermen, reduce time and effort, and provide a comprehensive working environment within the port.

He explained that Qurayyat Port is home to several investment projects related to the fisheries sector, including a fish processing and packaging plant belonging to Blue Waters Company, a fish farming site belonging to Taj Al Bahr Company, as well as workshops for repairing fishing boat engines and equipment, fishing gear and equipment shops, an ice factory, a fuel station, a fish market, fish shops and grills, and a tuna storage facility.

He emphasized that these projects enhance the added value of the fisheries sector and contribute to stimulating economic activity at the port, in addition to their role in supporting supply chains and logistics related to marine fishing.

Al Hinai clarified that the quantity of fish landed at the port's fish market during 2025 reached approximately 7,849 tons, with a value exceeding OMR 8.6 million , reflecting the economic importance of the port and its role in supporting food security and stimulating commercial activities related to fisheries.

He pointed out that the development of fishing ports is not limited to service aspects alone, but extends to include multiple social and economic dimensions. This includes improving the working environment for fishermen, boosting local investment, creating job opportunities, supporting coastal communities, stimulating tourism, and capitalizing on the marine resources that distinguish the Wilayat of Qurayyat.

Engineer Abdullah Al Hinai added that these projects represent an important step towards enhancing the sustainability of the fishing sector and improving the efficiency of port infrastructure, in line with the Sultanate of Oman's objectives of diversifying income sources and strengthening the economy.
