Transport Ministry opens new 7km section of Sultan Turki bin Said Road project

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP), has inaugurated a new 7-kilometre section of the Sultan Turki bin Said Road Project (Phase Two – Part Two), extending between the Wilayats of Al Kamil and Al Wafi and Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The newly opened section begins from Maslaq and extends to Saih Al Matar near the Royal Army of Oman camp, passing through the Sur Gate for motorists arriving from Al Kamil and Al Wafi. The opening is expected to enhance traffic flow and improve road safety along the route.

The inauguration comes as part of the ongoing implementation works of the project, which is considered one of the ministry’s strategic infrastructure projects due to its importance in developing the road network in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, strengthening connectivity between wilayats, and supporting economic, tourism, and development activities in the governorate.

The project includes the construction of a dual carriageway built to modern engineering standards, featuring three traffic lanes in each direction in some sections, in addition to a number of flyovers, wadi crossings, tunnels, and drainage culverts, in line with increasing traffic demand and efforts to enhance the efficiency of land transport infrastructure.

The ministry stated that the newly opened section has been equipped with all required road safety features, including steel and concrete barriers, warning and directional signs, and road markings, to ensure a safer driving environment and improve mobility across the governorate’s wilayats.
