Child Protection Committee mulls regulating the work of child protection committees across governorates

Muscat: The Omani Child Protection Committee today held its first meeting of the year (2026), under the auspices of Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Family and Community Development, Chairman of the Committee.

The Committee exchanged views about means of unifying mechanisms regulating the work of child protection committees across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It laid emphasis on consolidating public awareness and providing professional training for human resources operating in the field.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Development in Muscat, discussed proposals and initiatives presented by the departments concerned, as well as the progress made in implementing the recommendations issued at the committee’s second meeting in 2025.

The meeting focused on the impact of digital media on children, means of protecting children exposed to abuse and relevant early detection mechanisms.

The meeting discussed ways to technical requirements related to the efficiency of electronic systems supporting the management and follow-up of cases of children.

The participants looked into measures of enhancing electronic integration and information exchange between the main child protection committee and the departments concerned.

The meeting also discussed educational and health aspects related to the segments of children benefiting from Public Care and Accommodation Services, in addition to monitoring the performance the committees concerned across Oman’s governorates.
