Royal Hospital conducts rare surgeries on intravenous extraction of pacemaker electrodes

Muscat: The National Heart Centre, at the Royal Hospital, recently conducted five successful procedures to extract pacemaker electrodes via the veins.

The procedure, the first accomplishment of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, underscores the efforts undertaken by the National Heart Center to offer specialized services and to localize advanced technologies in treating heart rhythm disorders.

The procedure was conducted during a training workshop held as part of the National Heart Center's efforts to develop specialized services and raise the efficiency of medical staff.

The extraction of pacemaker electrodes via the veins constitutes one of the most complex operations in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. It is conducted in conditions that require the extraction of pacemaker electrodes due to the inflammation or malfunctioning of the pacemaker electrodes or when the need arises to replace the electrodes.

The procedure calls for a high level of preparedness among medical teams to ensure the safety of patients and to realize the best therapeutic outcomes.
