Oman adopts updated GCC technical regulation for digital radio receivers

Muscat: Oman has announced the implementation of the updated GCC Technical Regulation (GSO 2693:2026) for terrestrial digital audio broadcasting (T-DAB+) receivers, reinforcing efforts to improve the quality and performance of radio reception devices while keeping pace with the latest global broadcasting technologies.

The initiative is being implemented through collaboration between the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

The updated regulation establishes modern technical requirements for terrestrial digital audio broadcasting receivers (T-DAB+/FM/AM), ensuring that radio reception devices placed on the market meet enhanced performance and quality standards.

According to the authorities, the revised regulation aims to keep pace with advances in digital radio broadcasting technologies, enhance the quality and efficiency of radio receivers, and protect consumers by ensuring that products available in the market comply with approved technical specifications.

The regulation applies to manufacturers, producers, importers and retailers, as well as products and smart systems equipped with radio reception capabilities.

It covers a wide range of devices, including home and portable radio receivers, vehicle-integrated radio systems, aftermarket radio receivers, and multifunction smart devices equipped with radio reception technology.

The updated GCC technical regulation represents another step in strengthening the quality of digital broadcasting equipment across the Gulf region while supporting the adoption of advanced radio technologies and enhancing the user experience.
