Oman named Asia’s best country for quality of life

MUSCAT: Oman has been ranked the best country in Asia for quality of life and placed third globally in the Numbeo Quality of Life Index 2026 Mid-Year, reinforcing the Sultanate’s growing reputation as one of the world’s most desirable places to live.

According to Numbeo, Oman achieved an overall Quality of Life Index score of 203.9, sharing the third position globally with Denmark, behind only the Netherlands (205.6) and Luxembourg (204.8).

In Asia, Oman topped the rankings, followed by Qatar in second place, Japan in third place.

The ranking evaluates countries based on several indicators that influence residents’ quality of life, including purchasing power, safety, healthcare, cost of living, property price-to-income ratio, traffic commute time, pollution levels and climate.

Oman’s strong performance was driven by its high levels of public safety, low pollution, quality healthcare services, favourable climate and relatively short commuting times, making it the highest-ranked country in Asia and the Arab world in the latest assessment.

Numbeo’s Quality of Life Index is one of the world’s most widely referenced crowd-sourced databases for comparing living conditions across countries and cities. The index is updated periodically using user-contributed data combined with statistical indicators to provide comparative assessments of quality of life worldwide.
