Oman warns social media influencers, businesses against promoting food products without approval

MUSCAT: Oman's Food Safety and Quality Center has issued a fresh warning to social media influencers, content creators, businesses and food traders, reminding them that prior approval is mandatory before advertising or promoting any food product.

In an official alert, the Center said the requirement applies to advertisements and promotional campaigns carried out through social media platforms as well as other forms of media.

The directive covers influencers, social media activists, advertising agencies, companies, institutions and food traders involved in promoting food products.

The Center said the approval requirement is in line with the provisions of the Food Safety Law and Ministerial Resolution No. 69/2024 governing the registration of food products and their advertisement or promotion.

Authorities stressed that the regulation is intended to ensure that food advertisements comply with approved safety and regulatory standards before reaching consumers.

The Food Safety and Quality Center also warned that legal action will be taken against individuals or entities found violating the provisions of the applicable laws and ministerial resolutions.

The alert serves as a reminder that all parties involved in marketing food products in Oman must secure the necessary authorization before launching promotional campaigns to avoid legal consequences.
