Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources continues to monitor developments regarding grounded vessel incident

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in coordination with the relevant authorities, continues to monitor developments regarding the grounded vessel incident off Al Qibliya Island, within the Al Hallaniyat Islands archipelago in Dhofar Governorate. The Ministry is assessing any potential impacts on the marine environment.

As part of precautionary measures, the Ministry pointed out in a statement issued on Thursday that the Food Safety and Quality Centre is carrying out investigation, inspection and sampling procedures on fishery products currently in circulation in the markets, in order to verify their safety and compliance with approved health standards.

The Ministry calls upon fishermen and seafarers to abide by official instructions, to report any oil slicks, unusual odours, or noticeable changes in the water or marine life, and to avoid fishing in areas where such indicators are observed.

The Ministry emphasizes that these measures are undertaken as part of ongoing monitoring and precautionary efforts, and out of concern for the safety of fishery products and consumer health, while underscoring the importance of obtaining information from official sources.
