Muscat: The Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is continuing to implement a number of development, tourism and heritage projects in the wilayats of Al Hamra and Bahla, with completion rates ranging from 40% to 94%, as part of the governorate’s efforts to develop tourism and heritage sites and maximise the potential of the two wilayats.
The projects include the Eastern Mountain Oasis project and the rehabilitation and development of Misfat Al Abriyeen in Al Hamra, as well as the rehabilitation and development of Bahla Souq and the development of the Jabrin entrance and Bisyah area in Bahla. Work is progressing to complete the various implementation phases in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al Saadi, Acting Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, said during a field inspection of the projects that direct follow-up represents a key component of project management, enabling authorities to monitor progress, address challenges in coordination with relevant entities, ensure the quality of work and adhere to approved schedules.
He explained that Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is directing projects in line with the comparative advantages and resources of each wilayat in a manner that enhances their developmental and economic impact, supports the tourism sector, investment opportunities and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and increases the local value generated by the projects.
His Excellency noted that the Eastern Mountain Oasis project has exceeded 80% completion. Located on an area of approximately 10,000 square metres, the project includes an investment restaurant, an outdoor theatre, shaded seating areas, prayer areas, pedestrian walkways and open spaces. It aims to promote mountain tourism, improve the visitor experience, create an attractive environment for investment and stimulate economic activity. Local content during the implementation phase reached 85%.
The rehabilitation and development of Misfat Al Abriyeen has reached 40% completion. The project includes the construction of a glass bridge and pedestrian walkway, as well as the development of pathways, lighting, directional signage and parking facilities. These improvements are intended to enhance services, organise visitor movement and preserve the village’s architectural and heritage value.
In Bahla, the rehabilitation and development of Bahla Souq has reached approximately 94% completion, at a cost exceeding RO477,000. The project includes the rehabilitation of façades and commercial shops, restoration of traditional architectural elements, and development of pathways and services. It also includes the creation of a tourist walkway connecting the historic mosque with Bahla Fort, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The project is expected to enhance tourism and commercial activity while supporting artisans and SMEs.
Meanwhile, the project to develop the entrance to Jabrin and the Bisyah area has reached 40% completion. It includes the development of facilities, parking areas, lighting and seating areas, as well as improvements to the road leading to the Salut Centre. The project is aimed at enhancing the overall appearance of the area and improving the level of services provided to visitors.
His Excellency the Acting Governor of Al Dakhiliyah affirmed that direct follow-up of the projects will continue, alongside enhanced coordination among the relevant authorities and efforts to address challenges that could affect the progress of works. He stressed the importance of ensuring quality implementation, the sustainability of facilities and the achievement of the intended developmental and economic returns.
The follow-up forms part of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s programme to monitor the progress of ongoing projects across its wilayats, enhance implementation efficiency, align projects with the actual resources and needs of each wilayat, and support the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
