Salalah Eye: New panoramic viewpoint enhancing tourism experience in Khareef Dhofar

Salalah: Salalah Eye represents a new addition to the tourism and entertainment experience ecosystem in Dhofar Governorate, coinciding with the Khareef 2026 (monsoon) season. The attraction offers a panoramic experience allowing visitors to view the sea, plains and mountains from an elevation of 55 meters, situated at Al Haffah Beach in the Wilayat of Salalah.

The project harmoniously combines a prime coastal location with a modern entertainment experience, set against the backdrop of the governorate's distinctive natural assets during the Khareef season—when clouds and mist form, and mountains and plains don their verdant greenery, offering visitors ever-changing vistas from a unique perspective.

The Ferris wheel comprises 30 enclosed, air-conditioned cabins, each accommodating up to six persons, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience for families and individuals alike. The panoramic glass facades provide sweeping views of the surrounding landscape throughout the wheel's rotation, encompassing the Arabian Sea, the coastal strip, Salalah city and the mountainous areas.

Eng. Khalid Hamad Al Mahrouqi, Executive Director of the Salalah Eye project, stated that the initiative introduces a new tourism and entertainment experience to Dhofar Governorate, capitalizing on the natural and climatic attributes that distinguish Salalah during the Khareef season. He noted that the project's location on Al Haffah Beach enables visitors to combine recreational enjoyment with coastal views in a single destination.

He told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the wheel stands at 55 meters in height and features 30 enclosed, air-conditioned cabins, each with a capacity of six persons. A complete rotation takes between 12 and 15 minutes, offering a 360-degree panoramic view encompassing the Arabian Sea, the coastal strip and the natural landscape of Salalah city.

He added that Al Haffah Beach was selected as the project site due to its tourism significance, vibrant atmosphere, high visitor footfall and its strategic position that enables the delivery of an experience combining sea, city and natural scenery. He affirmed that the project represents an enhancement to the diversity of tourism and entertainment options available to visitors to the governorate.

Eng. Khalid emphasized that the project exemplifies a partnership model between local investors and companies with global expertise, facilitating the transfer of international best practices in the implementation and operation of modern tourism projects, while supporting investment attraction opportunities in the tourism sector. He noted that the project cost approximately RO 3 million, reflecting the scale of investment in developing a contemporary tourism and entertainment product that leverages the distinctive tourism location of Al Haffah Beach and the natural endowments of Dhofar Governorate.

He pointed out that the experience offered by Salalah Eye varies according to the time of day; during daylight hours, visitors can observe the expanse of the coastline, sea, city and mountainous areas, while the evening affords a distinctly different ambiance with views of the waterfront and the city lights.

He explained that the project aligns with the strategic approach toward developing modern tourism products and experiences in Dhofar Governorate, thereby enhancing the diversity of the tourism offering and interconnecting the natural, recreational, cultural and heritage assets with which the governorate is abundantly endowed. He underscored the importance of integration between new projects and existing tourism destinations in enriching the visitor experience.

Eng. Khalid further explained that the investing and operating company conducted a comprehensive market study and benchmarked pricing against similar projects when determining ticket prices, ensuring the delivery of a tourism experience at accessible rates for various visitor segments.

Ticket prices commence at RO 5 per person, with family discounts available and the option to book private cabins, enabling visitors to select an experience tailored to their preferences. Additionally, the project provides facilitated access for persons with disabilities through complimentary tickets and dedicated cabins, thereby empowering them to benefit from the tourism and entertainment experience offered by the project.
