Muscat: The total value of fish landed through artisanal, coastal and commercial fishing, as well as aquaculture, in the Sultanate of Oman reached OMR320.795 million by the end of June 2026, registering a 1.5% increase compared with OMR316.112 million during the corresponding period of 2025, according to preliminary statistical data published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total volume of fish landed through artisanal, coastal and commercial fishing reached 468,407 tonnes by the end of June 2026, compared with 469,175 tonnes at the end of June 2025, representing a slight 0.2% decline.
The volume of artisanal fishing decreased by 0.3%, reaching 416,683 tonnes by the end of June 2026, compared with 418,133 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025.
Al Wusta Governorate ranked first among Oman’s governorates in terms of fish landed through artisanal fishing, with a total of 149,434 tonnes, followed by South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 115,055 tonnes.The North and South Al Batinah Governorates together recorded 51,721 tonnes, followed by Dhofar Governorate with 49,865 tonnes. Meanwhile, the quantities landed in Muscat Governorate reached 25,995 tonnes, while Musandam Governorate recorded 24,612 tonnes.
In contrast, the volume of commercial fishing increased by 1.4% to reach 46,232 tonnes by the end of June 2026, compared with 45,616 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025. The volume of coastal fishing also increased by 1.2%, reaching 5,492 tonnes, compared with 5,426 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025.
By fish species landed through artisanal fishing, small pelagic fish ranked first, with a volume of 206,913 tonnes, followed by large pelagic fish at 127,831 tonnes, and demersal fish at 65,194 tonnes. Other unclassified species followed with 11,389 tonnes, then sharks with 2,974 tonnes. Crustaceans and mollusks recorded the lowest volume at 2,382 tonnes.
