Total credit granted by Oman's banking sector rises to top OMR38bn

Muscat: The total credit granted by banking sector institutions in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 12.2 percent by the end of July 2026, reaching OMR38.3 billion.

Data issued by the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) indicated that credit granted to the private sector recorded growth of 11.5 percent, reaching OMR31.1 billion by the end of July 2026.

Data related to its distribution across various sectors indicate that the non-financial corporations sector accounted for the largest share, at 48.2 percent by the end of July 2026, followed by the household sector at 42.7 percent, while the remaining percentage was distributed between the financial corporations’ sector at 5.9 percent and other sectors at 2.6 percent.

Total deposits with the banking sector recorded growth of 13.2 percent, reaching OMR37.3 billion by the end of July 2026. Within this total, private sector deposits with the banking system rose by 12.7 percent to reach OMR24.7 billion by the end of July 2026.

In examining the distribution of the total private sector deposit base across various sectors, the figures indicate that the household sector accounted for the largest share, at approximately 48.5 percent, followed by the non-financial corporations’ sector and the financial corporations’ sector with shares of 35.2 percent and 14.6 percent respectively, while the remaining 1.7 percent was distributed across other sectors.
