Muscat: Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by the Oman Athletes Commission, organised the Athletes Forum in Nizwa, with the participation of around 40 athletes. The forum forms part of OOC’s efforts to strengthen direct communication with athletes, raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities, and listen to their views, needs and aspirations.
The forum in Nizwa is part of a series of forums organised by the Oman Athletes Commission across the governorates of Oman. A previous forum was held in Dhofar Governorate, with the aim of reaching athletes across different governorates, opening channels for dialogue, and exchanging views on issues related to their sporting careers.
The forum was presented by Khalifa Al Jabri, Chairman of the Oman Athletes Commission, Asaad Al Hasani, Vice Chairman of the Commission, and Commission members Mohammed Al Sulaimani and Nasser Al Riyami. The sessions addressed a number of topics of importance to athletes, including an introduction to the Oman Athletes Commission, its role and responsibilities, athletes’ rights and responsibilities, athlete protection, mental and athletic development, as well as key issues and challenges facing athletes.
The forum featured active engagement from participants, who shared their views and raised questions while discussing various topics related to their sporting experiences and needs. This strengthened communication between athletes and the Oman Athletes Commission and supported the Commission’s role in conveying athletes’ voices and following up on issues of importance to them.
The Oman Athletes Commission continues to organise such forums and meetings across the governorates, strengthening athletes’ presence within the sports system, supporting their participation in discussions on issues related to their sporting careers, and contributing to a more supportive and empowering sporting environment for athletes.
