Muscat: Twelve people were killed and 309 others injured in Saturday’s attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said in a follow-up statement on Sunday.
The fatalities included four Saudi citizens and eight foreign nationals: two Bangladeshis and one each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan, GACA said.
The authority said some of the injured were in critical condition and were receiving medical treatment at several hospitals across the Kingdom.
The attack also caused property damage at the airport, the extent of which is currently being assessed, the statement added.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the attack as authorities assessed the damage and verified the safety of airport facilities.
In an earlier announcement, GACA confirmed that the airport had been targeted on Saturday afternoon, October 10, amid continued attacks on civilian aviation facilities in Saudi Arabia.
