Oman leads UN preparations for 7th Session on Middle East Nuclear-Free Zone

Muscat: A consultative meeting was held today at the United Nations headquarters in New York, chaired by the Sultanate of Oman in its capacity as President of the Seventh Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction, scheduled for November 16 to 20.

The session was led by His Excellency Ambassador Omar bin Saeed Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations and President of the Seventh Session, with participation from member states and the UN Secretariat.

Discussions focused on key organisational and substantive preparations for the upcoming conference, including the formal program of work and the outcomes of the Working Committee’s year-long consultations on establishing the proposed zone.

Oman’s leadership of the Seventh Session reinforces its commitment to fostering regional consensus and maintaining diplomatic momentum toward establishing a WMD-free Middle East to bolster regional stability and security.
