Musandam Municipal Council advances 14 development projects

Muscat: The Municipal Council of Musandam Governorate has approved 14 development and service proposals for implementation out of 67 topics discussed during seven meetings held until the end of September 2026, as part of efforts to improve public services, enhance quality of life and promote sustainable development.

Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Kamzari, Vice Chairman of the Municipal Council, said the council serves as a link between local community needs and the relevant authorities, focusing on development priorities and finding solutions to issues raised by residents.

He noted that several projects had entered the implementation phase following approval by the competent authorities, reflecting ongoing efforts to translate proposals into initiatives addressing the governorate’s development and service requirements.

Key initiatives include the “Develop Your Neighbourhood” programme, allocating a site for a solar power station in Madha, designating land for two model dairy and poultry farms, identifying future investment land for food security, and implementing an urban renewal initiative in the Lima district of Khasab.

Al-Kamzari stressed the importance of strengthening coordination with relevant authorities and intensifying follow-up on recommendations to accelerate implementation, improve operational efficiency and enhance public services.

Saif bin Ahmed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Municipal Council Affairs Department in Musandam Governorate, said the council monitors the implementation of decisions and recommendations through a defined mechanism for communicating with the concerned authorities and tracking progress.

He added that the approach supports balanced and sustainable development while making better use of Musandam’s economic and tourism potential.

Regarding a proposal to establish an integrated tourist port in Khasab, Al Dhaheri said the project remained under study. If implemented, it could help tap the wilayat’s tourism potential, expand the capacity of the tourism sector and provide specialised services for visitors, strengthening Khasab’s position as a marine tourism destination.

The council has also requested exemptions and facilities to support tourism businesses in Musandam amid exceptional regional circumstances. The proposed measures aim to ease the challenges facing tourism establishments, help them maintain operations and investments, and support the stability of the local tourism sector.

On coastal erosion at Basah in Khasab, Al Dhaheri said the issue had been referred to the relevant authority for assessment and appropriate solutions. Tidal movements and sea currents are among the main factors contributing to the erosion.

Hamad bin Ibrahim Al-Shehhi, Director of Khasab Municipality and official spokesperson for Musandam Governorate, said municipal projects were focused on developing infrastructure and upgrading facilities to meet the needs of urban expansion and improve residents’ quality of life.

The municipality is studying several additional service projects, including street lighting in residential areas, playgrounds, a public park, and the development of waterfront and cultural areas.

The Municipal Council continues to promote community participation in identifying development priorities and monitoring project implementation, with the aim of improving service delivery and achieving sustainable benefits across Musandam Governorate.
