Muscat: The Oman Astronomical Society said that it is closely monitoring reports regarding a bright celestial phenomenon observed in the skies across the Sultanate of Oman at approximately 7:00 PM, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Initial scientific assessments suggest the light was a fireball—an exceptionally luminous meteor created when a celestial body enters the Earth's atmosphere at high speed, generating severe friction that produces an intense glow and a visible light trail.

The Society clarified that the observation of a fireball does not confirm a meteorite impact on the ground. It added that such atmospheric events are frequently accompanied by a natural sonic boom caused by shock waves generated as the object pierces the upper atmosphere.

The Oman Astronomical Society urged the public to rely on verified scientific updates and refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports or speculation.
