New York: The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the joint meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the United States of America. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was headed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister.
In his remarks during the meeting, Sayyid Badr underlined the historical relations spanning more than two centuries between Oman and the United States, and their achievements in the fields of protecting global energy supplies, combating terrorism, securing maritime navigation, and supporting peace efforts. He affirmed that this partnership necessitates urgent action to address current challenges.
He explained that the greatest threat facing the region today is the injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people due to ongoing Israeli violations, which have resulted in famine, displacement, and the destruction of hospitals and schools. He affirmed that these practices are unacceptable and constitute a flagrant breach of international law.
Sayyid Badr added that Israel's actions consistently undermine its stated claims about peace, noting that if it were truly serious, it would not have assassinated negotiators, bombed hostages, and starved civilians – a clear demonstration of the contradiction between its words and deeds.
He referred to Oman's hosting of five rounds of talks between the United States and Iran regarding the nuclear file from March to June of this year. He highlighted that the widespread attack launched by Israel on Iran in June contributed to undermining the sixth round, which was expected to be decisive, affirming that such practices obstruct paths of understanding and harm the security and stability of the region.
He stressed that Oman's message is clear: the usual approach cannot continue, and a credible political process must be advanced that clearly demonstrates that escalation and violence will not be tolerated. He emphasized that the international community's failure to act will lead to further instability and serious repercussions for the regional and international order.
Sayyid Badr underscored the commitment of Oman and the GCC states to enhancing the partnership with the United States, stressing that the success of this partnership is contingent upon stopping the cycle of violence and adhering to a just and lasting peace that achieves justice, security, and stability for all.
