Awareness campaign on climate hazards and tsunami waves to be launched on Monday

Muscat: The fifth phase of the national awareness campaign on the dangers of climatic conditions and tsunami waves, held under the slogan “Awareness for Your Safety,” will be launched on Monday in South Al Batinah Governorate and will continue for three days.

The campaign is organised by National Center for Emergency Management in cooperation with Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Information, Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, South Al Batinah Governorate, and Ministry of Education.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among communities and institutions about the dangers associated with severe weather conditions, climate-related events, and tsunami waves. It also seeks to strengthen understanding of the multi-hazard early warning system and provide comprehensive guidance on proper behaviour during emergencies.

Organisers said the initiative is designed to enhance community preparedness and improve the capabilities of individuals in dealing with emergency situations through a range of training programmes and awareness activities.

The campaign targets representatives from government and private sector entities, as well as civil society organisations and volunteer teams. Activities include meetings, seminars, practical exercises, participation in governorate events, awareness bulletins, and an accompanying educational exhibition.

Sultanate of Oman places significant emphasis on strengthening readiness levels in facing risks associated with tropical cyclones and tsunamis.

Officials noted that organising the campaign reflects the importance of promoting a culture of community awareness to ensure effective and rapid responses during emergencies and to minimise human and material losses. The campaign’s activities begin in coastal governorates and extend across various governorates of Oman.
