Riyadh: The Research and Innovation Authority participated in the fourth edition of the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit, held in the Saudi capital, under the theme "Building Foundations for Excellence in Medical Biotechnology."
The participation included a discussion of the project to prepare the National Biotechnology Strategy. It addressed the most prominent global challenges and achievements in the biotechnology sector, particularly artificial intelligence applications and governance, and attracting investments in pharmaceutical industries, medical sciences, and space research.
The Research and Innovation Authority presented a working paper at the summit titled "Future Capabilities and Leadership." It addressed mechanisms for building competencies and the most important leadership roles for the biotechnology sector. It also identified the capabilities that could affect the sector's growth if not addressed early, distinguishing between technical, commercial, regulatory, manufacturing, digital, and leadership needs.
The Authority's participation comes within the framework of strengthening existing cooperation between the committee concerned with regulating the uses of biotechnology and its products and the protection of genetic data in the Sultanate of Oman and its counterparts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This contributes to developing research and innovation fields and supporting the knowledge-based economy.
